About the South African Clinical Technology Association (SACTA)

The South African Clinical Technology Association (SACTA) is a professional body representing Clinical Technologists across South Africa. We support practitioners, students, and graduates in disciplines such as Cardiology, Cardio Perfusion, Pulmonology, Reproductive Biology, Critical Care, Nephrology, and Neurology, connecting education, industry, and healthcare to advance the profession.

cedric mabe

Acting Chairperson former Vice Chairperson

Cedric Mabe is an experienced Clinical Technologist with over 20 years of expertise in both public and private healthcare. Since qualifying in 1997, he has developed a deep understanding of organisational structures, healthcare policy, and regulatory frameworks that shape the profession. Cedric holds a B.Tech in Clinical Technology specialising in Nephrology from the Durban University of Technology.

Passionate about professional advocacy, Cedric is dedicated to strengthening the recognition and value of Clinical Technology within South Africa’s healthcare system, ensuring it remains a vital and respected profession.

Stacey Leigh Wilson

Vice Chairperson

Stacey Leigh Wilson is a Clinical Technologist specializing in Reproductive Biology, passionate about supporting individuals and couples on their journey to parenthood. After completing her degree at the Durban University of Technology, she gained extensive experience through training at leading private fertility clinics in Durban and serving in the reproductive unit of a government hospital in Pretoria.

Stacey co-founded the first fertility clinic in Pietermaritzburg, where she collaborates with healthcare professionals to provide exceptional patient care. She has also authored two fertility-related articles published in international medical journals, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field.

Since 2020, Stacey has served as the Education and Development Coordinator for SACTA, playing a key role in professional development and training initiatives for Clinical Technologists across South Africa.

Ncamisile Maphumulo

Secretary

Ncamisile Maphumulo is a qualified Clinical Technologist with a Bachelor’s degree in Nephrology. She brings extensive experience in kidney health and dialysis, with a strong commitment to patient-centered care.

Passionate about improving access to quality renal care, Ncamisile founded her own private clinic, providing personalized dialysis services for patients living with kidney disease. Guided by compassion and clinical excellence, she is dedicated to empowering patients and ensuring care is delivered with professionalism, dignity, and respect.

Siphelele Simo Nkala

Treasurer

Siphelele Simo Nkala is a qualified Clinical Technologist specializing in Nephrology, with over 20 years of experience in dialysis care. He holds a B.Tech in Clinical Technology (Nephrology) from DUT and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from UP.

Simo has held various leadership roles, including Unit Manager and Director of multiple dialysis centres, and currently manages two units under Universal Renal Care, overseeing clinical, administrative, and HR operations. Passionate about patient care, staff development, and kidney disease awareness, he also serves as an external dissertation supervisor, POPI compliance officer, and active member of SACTA, RCSSA, and the HPCSA Professional Conduct Committee.

Londeka Mshayisa

Education and Development Coordinator

Londeka Mshayisa  is a 21year-old professional Clinical Technologist currently practicing at Universal Renal Care (URC) in South Africa. He specialises in the field of Nephrology, specifically focusing on the administration of chronic and acute dialysis treatments for patients with renal failure. He transitioned into this role following a successful Work Integrated Learning (WIL) period as a student at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). Mr Mshayisa is recognised for his academic excellence and commitment to strive for excellence in his professional roles. He has since been involved in several workshops that are aimed at advancing his field of expertise.

Prior to being a professional, Mr Mshayisa graduated Cum Laude with a Dean’s Merit award with his Bachelor of Health Sciences degree in Clinical Technology from DUT. He thereafter became a Golden Key member with DUT underpinning his academic excellence. He has a strong desire to advance Clinical Technology through rigorous and evidence-based research, which also links with his aspirations of obtaining a PhD in the near future. He is currently preparing to register as a Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Technology student at DUT for the 2026 academic year.

James Bernard Swart

Co-Opt Member

James Bernard Swart is a senior Cardiovascular Perfusionist with more than 35 years of experience in both the public and private healthcare sectors in South Africa. He qualified with a National Diploma in Clinical Technology (Cardiovascular Perfusion) from Technicon Pretoria and began his career at Steve Biko and Ga-Rankuwa State Hospitals, where he progressed from Student Perfusionist to Senior Perfusionist and later Head of Training.
 
Since 1994, Mr Swart has been in private practice, delivering advanced cardiopulmonary bypass services for open-heart surgery, ECMO support, IABP management, VAD therapy, and TAVI standby procedures. His practice emphasizes patient safety, precise intraoperative monitoring, and collaborative multidisciplinary teamwork.
 
He has previously served as Chairman of Perfmed (the Private Perfusionists Association), provided industry consultancy, and contributed to professional education through in-service training initiatives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he volunteered in ICU support.
